Healthcare workers are bowing out by the thousands
One of the rawest examples of the pandemic’s impact on the labour market comes from the healthcare sector. Indeed, despite becoming some of the most in-demand professionals across the globe (for all-too-obvious reasons), masses of healthcare workers are quitting their jobs. In an article in The Atlantic, Ed Yong cites figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, revealing that the American healthcare sector has lost almost half a million workers since February 2020. Morning Consult, meanwhile, estimates that 18% of healthcare workers have quit since the pandemic began and that another 12% have been laid off. Another striking figure comes from the recent survey
