We were able to attend the presentation of the second Skills for a Greener Future report during the Climate Change Conference held earlier this month in Madrid. Drafted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the report analyses the obstacles hindering skills development and retraining in today’s labour market. Both aspects, it claims, are key to unlocking the employment potential of the so-called “green transition” whilst also minimising the risk of aggravating the number of people without work, in poverty or suffering from some form of inequality. The new report, published nearly 10 years after its predecessor, covers 32 countries, which together account for 63% of world employment, 65% of global GDP and 63% of CO2 emissions.
