The death of George Floyd has sparked a resurgence in the Black Lives Matter movement, which originally arose back in 2013 after George Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering African-American teen Trayvon Martin. It has done so much more than that, however: his death has served to raise awareness amongst millions of people around the world on the plight of the Black minority in the United States. The fact of the matter is that little progress has been made in reducing the income and wealth inequalities faced by African-Americans; the gap has in fact widened since the Great Recession.
